Great game, Australia looked gone in the first half then they regrouped to fight back and down the mighty blacks

BTW Steve, we need a seperate Forum for non-squash related chatter, like this where all other sports and general conversation about anything can be discussed. Cool

I agree with you Viper, Australia's win over the AB's on Saturday night is great for the World Cup. It's a timely loss that we needed, not having lost to Oz since 2004, and we'll be back bigger and better than ever for the World Cup. BTW - The Tri Nations is ours! Laughing

We're going to get the Rugby WC cancelled so England can still be world champions.

That sending off was an absolutely, ridiculously, soft decision!! South African ref's should be banned in the Southern Hemisphere!
Sorry Adam, your WC days are very very numbered!! Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

Hey Viper, you're a good sport mate! Roll on the World Cup Razz

Can we add this to it?? Very Happy

"The Silver Ferns came back from a ten goal deficit to win 67-65 in extended extra time in a heart-stopping test against Australia in Melbourne on Saturday night...."

England win through to the semis against Australia and the All Blacks choke again - get in there!

Our days may be numbered, but we lasted longer than the Kiwis in the end. We'll stuff those Frogs in the semi anyway. Wink

Congratulations to the WC finalists, England and South Africa - neither our mighty AB's nor Oz could cut it when the pressure was on. Should be a great match, hopefully not limited to penalties, but with some great running rugby and a few tries scored!

Don't bet on it. Both these countries have won WC final before by grinding their way to field position and drop-goaling their way to the win. The knockout stages of this WC have been characterised by cagey, defensive play and I expect the final to be the same.

Fair play kiwichick, you've taken it well. Tho' the AB management team were not so gracious in defeat. The Boks will win it now.

I'm neither for or against either England or S Africa but you can't argue with the fact that S Africa have been the most consistent side in the tournament. Even when their B team was looking like coming a cropper, they pulled it out of the fire by using the subs. If they keep this up in the final, they will beat the english forwards and win the day.
Saying "you hope not" [to quote marro] as a glib one-liner is predjudiced. If someone is the best team in all their matches, they deserve to win. If England prove the better team in the final, they will be deserving winners for upping their game when it counted.

And I've put to one side that the BBC commentary for the France/Springbok match was atrociously parochial as they kept going on about the England win the day before and ignored a rivetting encounter on the pitch.

Thanks fionnmacual - my sentiments exactly! My remark about running rugby and try scoring was very tongue in cheek, and more wishful thinking than anything! I agree with you about SA being the most consistent team to date, but whichever team wins, the victory will be well deserved.

Just as an aside, I heard on the radio this morning that the referee for the AB's/France quarter-final has been judged by the International Referee's panel as having made (at least) 3 major decisions against the AB's which could have been crucial in changing the final result of the game; 1) the forward pass resulting in their last try (helloooooo, "could have changed the final result"???), and two other hand in the ruck decisions which would have been very handy penalty situations for us. I guess you can't blame the AB management team for their backlash, still doesn't change the final outcome though and good luck to both teams in the final!

Of course it's prejudiced, although I'm not sure it was glib! I'm English and as such support England and hope that they win. That doesn't necessarily mean that I don't think the 'Boks deserve to win, just that I hope they don't.

If we win, I couldn't care less about if we played attractive rugby or if we had some lucky decisions. :p
