Criteria was just to have won both British and World. I chucked Shabana in because I'm sure if he played every year he would've won one by now. Jonah was chucked in cos he probably would've won a world open if it was around at the prime of his career. It's interesting to note that Palmer has more british open and world opens combined then Peter and Jonathon put together. _________________ If the doors of perception were cleansed, everything would appear to man as it is, infinite |

| i vote for Jonah. he started late in life, was a crap player to begin with, but ended up being the best in the world through sheer dedication. Some of the current pros attended his fitness clinics and found the going way too tough. pure dedication..... |

I think Geoff would be better than him automatically cos he trained twice as hard as Jonah to become no. 1 in the world. _________________ If the doors of perception were cleansed, everything would appear to man as it is, infinite |

jonah always beat geoff. it was only at the end of jonahs career that geoff started to beat him. Geoff didnt train twice as hard as jonah. jonah was announced to be the fittest man in the world after he underwent trials by doctors and scientists.. even geoff acknowledged that jonah was the fitter man. |

| No one these days is able to dominate like the Khan's seemed to be able to do in the 80's and 90's. |

It was more like the case of Jahangir and Geoff where Geoff started getting old as Jahangir was coming up. I read about how Geoff trained twice as hard with his 400m sprints and spent a year only playing drives and ended up being fitter. _________________ If the doors of perception were cleansed, everything would appear to man as it is, infinite |

i know all about geoffs 400m sprints. he used to do them in sets of 12 apparently. but geoff always took his hat off to jonah when it came to fitness and training. geoff was probably the more skilful player though. |

What if I don't believe you and don't want to go buy those books. And it seems to me any book about Jonah would highlight good quotes when in fact most people believe Geoff was fitter. _________________ If the doors of perception were cleansed, everything would appear to man as it is, infinite |

I'm going to say Jonah on the basis that he almost single-handedly caused the squash boom in the 1970s.
We need another one. _________________ Adam Hildred

| I can't speak to the players of earlier generations, but Power, Palmer, Nicol -- none of them are as good as Ramy is when he's in top form. Watching Palmer play Ramy at the ToC last month was amazing. Palmer was helpless. I know Palmer may be past his prime, but his game hasn't diminished much. |

Palmer seems to have developed a mental block against Ramy. When was the last time he beat him? Ramy's unbeatable when he has an open court to play with; I'm not sure he's even close to being unbeatable against really tight and skillful players like Shabana and Gaultier. He's still very young, so I'm sure he'll soon work out a way to get past these players. He certainly has the best squash brain amongst all the curent players. _________________ Before I speak, I have something important to say- Groucho Marx |

| Matthew and Willstrop (along with Shabana and Gaultier) will constantly haunt him, these guys have the sort of game to counter Ramy's explosiveness. I was there at the TOC 2007 when Shabana played Ramy and everyone was abuzz that today is Ramy's day and he will crush Shabana n all, but Shabana made minced meat out of him, reduced him to such an average player just by playing tight and getting everything back that Ramy threw at him. Shabana deserves his title as the World No.1 right now, Ramy needs to mature a lot more to complete his game, he's still very raw... |

| But that was one of Ramy's first major matches against Shabana -- they've split the last two. But I don't disagree that Ramy's got room to improve. Will be interesting to see how he does against the guys you've mentioned over the next year or two. Wilstrop seems most willing to shoot it out with him, which makes for great matches to watch, but Wilstrop hasn't yet won playing that way. Gaultier and Matthew have had better luck with patient retrieving. |

| Actually, I was thinking of Gaultier's success against Shabana -- I don't know if he's beaten Ramy. And Matthew beat him just the once last year in the US Open. |

| Agreed. Jansher dominated like no player today seems able to. And its not like he didn't have decent opposition. Dittmar and Martin were not exactly easy beats. Would have been interesting to see if Jansher and Jahanger had of been in their prime at the same time. |

What a load of rubbish, Ramy isn't even #1 in the world yet. An amazing talent he is, but at the moment, to say he's better than Power/Nicol is just disrespectful to them. _________________ Adam Hildred

I agree with the above comment. Ramy has made a fantastic start to his career, but to say he is better than nicol and power already is a big statement.
I am a big fan of Jon Power, but how can you go past jansher khan. Hunt, barrington, jahangir, power, nicol, etc are all legends of the game, but did anyone dominate like jansher. i think not. |
