anyone see the match between joey barrington and oli tuominen at canary wharf? what a match! barrington seems to have really improved and is knocking on the door of top 10 soon if he keeps his form up. not bad for a lad that started squash late in life. strange that tuominen does not reach more semis, he can beat a lot of the players in the top 10, except for shabana, ashour and gaultier. great to see alistar walker causing an upset too...

Nope, not gonna happen. Barrington will never be knocking on the door of the top ten guys.

dont know exactly, i just remember a commentator saying that he had no junior squash career and he followed his fathers footsteps by starting very late in life. his father didnt start until he left university.

Yeah right! As if his dad never had a hit with him or never taught him anything when he was a kid. He means that he never trained full-time or played squash full-time. That's what he means when he says that he started late.

He has always played squash but only in the last few years has he played full time.
Agree though that he will never be in the top 10, be lucky to get top 20 in my opinion. Super fit but not enough natural talent or racket skills.

he hardly played too much if he had no junior career. agreed that he probably played a bit but not competitevly or at a high level. all his improvement has been in the last couple of years. judging by his rapid improvement, i would say he should reach top 20 at least......

It's much harder to get from 25 in the world to 15 in the world than it is to get from 35 to 25. He may get to about 20 but not much higher. Doesn't seem to be able to beat Adrian Grant for example who is another player that floats around 15/16 in the rankings.

Tend to agree Joey will hang around the 20's. Cannot see him going top 10. Still pretty good effort from him to reach these levels considering the strength and depth. Shows there is hope for all late starters with enough guts and a certain level of talent. I would like to see him go out and prove us all wrong now but don't think it will happen.

Joey's had some extremely close matches with the top guys but never seems to quite get over the hump. If he stays at it, he'll eventually break through like Alistair Walker did against Gaultier last week. And once you get that first big win, you start believing, and the momentum just builds from there.

Nope, still not going to happen. He's seriously lacking in the racquet skills and shots and "courtsense" that the top guys have, more reliant on a grinding type of game that I don't think is going to work that well anymore, much anyway, maybe once in awhile.

Joey's playing still reminds me a bit of how Anthony Ricketts played, granted he doesn't have the fiery temper, but he does play a very agressive physical game. Fun too watch. He is also an extremly nice guy
