i was at the hithercroft open at the weekend and i would just like to say well done to the organisers for putting on such a great event. neil thompson did well to pull it all together, and alan steptoe worked tirelessly to get the reports written on time.
it was the first time i had seen mohamed el shorbagy. i was really looking forward to watching him. i had heard so much of this new exciting talent. unfortunatley in my opinion he let himself down. yes he has a massive talent. but his attitude is shocking. he spent more time off the court arguing with the ref than actually playing. it appeared that he was more interested in coming up with his next quick witted and often offensive remark than actually playing squash. if he had concentrated on playing squash instead of trying to wind up scott handley, he may well have won the tournament.
i realise he is only a young man? but this does not excuse talking to refs like they are dirt on his shoe.
in future i suggest he stick to playing winning squash rather than getting into ugly debates with his opponent and the ref. i think the crowd all like a bit of banter but being disrespectful is not nice |
