Not that I'm thinking much of golf with 40cm of snow dumped here in the last 24hrs, but it is my "off season" sport.
Any other squash/golf players out there? |

We've had about 30cm here in Grande Prairie in the last 2 days, where are you?
What kind of clubs do swing?
Viper appears to be a golfer too, what do you hack with? _________________ IN SQUASH WE TRUST. |

Yes I love golf too. A lot of squash players like golf i am thinking?? Anyone know why?. In australia we don't suffer from snow but from lack of rain. The greens where I play are kept ok but surrounding it are dead dry trees and yellow grass. _________________ If the doors of perception were cleansed, everything would appear to man as it is, infinite |

One of the many reasons squash players like golf is that the swings are similar.

West of Ottawa in the Valley.
I've gone through many, many clubs and have been building my own since 2001. I've shafted and reshafted everything below except the wedges and putters. Right now I have a mixed bag I'm very happy with:
Drivers: TM R580XD
FWs: Cleveland Launcher
Hybrid: Mizuno CLK
Irons: Wishon
Wedges: Ping Tour
Putters: Mentor
Shafts are: Accra, Graphite Design, UST & Flighted Rifle.
What do you play?

I hit with a 9 degree Zevo driver and 3 wood they are custom built, I'm 6'4" so I can't buy off the rack.
Irons are McGregor VIP Tourney, reshafted with an extra inch and a half and a low kick point(I hit the ball way too high). I had the hozzles bent an extra 2 degree's upright to adjust for my height.
I have 5 or 6 putters but at the end of last season I was using my Scotty Cameron X red. I like the Callaway Big Bertha ball and the Titleist Pro V1 but they are pricey. _________________ IN SQUASH WE TRUST. |

Ball are one thing I skimp on, but they have to spin well around the greens (best part of my game is inside 100yrds). I'm playing Srixon UR-X right now and picked up some Top Flite Strata TL-Tours cheap from Sport Check--these are the best cheap balls out there!
Low kick point will raise your ballflight, not lower it (I also hit the ball high and the shafts I play have lowered my trajectory well). You probably meant high kickpoint.
Very few can play their best with clubs off the rack. Smart move on increasing the lie angle. I have the opposite problem being 11" shorter than you. My irons are 2* flat from Wishon standard (he makes some of the best, most consistent irons out there--if you don't know him he custom made Payne Stewart's irons and has been cutting edge in design with many, many patents over the last 15 years. www.wishongolf.com )
What shafts do you have in your irons and what flex? |

Oops! you're right about the high kick point, I always mix them up. Any way I can't recall the exact type of shaft I'm using but it is a True Temper steel shaft with a moderate flex. I have decreased my swing speed a lot so this works well.
I used to have graphite in my Zevo irons but I broke a few where they are glued into the hozzle and I could not get used to the weight distribution.
My Zevo clubs were fitted by my uncle in Saskatoon www.kingcustomgolf.ca
I also use the Srixon soft feel ball as it very closely resembles the Pro V1 but at about half the price is one of the best buys out there.
I've bought experienced Pro V1's off Ebay for cheap too.
Golf season seems a long way away. _________________ IN SQUASH WE TRUST. |

Boys, boys, boys, boys and their tools It is not about the clubs, the drivers, the balls it is and has and always will be about the quality of the swing.
I still hit with steel shafted blades ! _________________ ........ Squash is a drug - and remember there is always someone better than you........ |

You are so right about boys and their tools/toys/technology, BUT (big but) if the clubs don't fit, you will have to alter your swing to compensate. Having to compensate means that you will not be able to play your best. Lie angle and flex are the most important factors, but you also have to consider in irons offset, weight distribution, length, swingweight, and more if you want your good swing to be efficient and repeatable.
This is the way I look at it: if your equipment fits properly, it's 100% your swing, technique, fitness, etc. in golf and squash. That way, when I mess up I know I can't blame anything but me, and I also know I am able to play my best without my equipment holding me back.
I know many disagree, but that's the way I see it. |

Technology seems to be a huge equalizer in golf these days. A good swing is key, but the right clubs as VolleyDrop mentioned is very important. _________________ IN SQUASH WE TRUST. |

| I have a $300 beginner set that I absolutely refuse to exchange. They're good clubs, just not the top-end... it's me, not the clubs that will give me a better round. Technique, technique, technique! And I have tried other clubs, mostly its just the drivers that I've noticed a difference. My last score was an 84! I'm happy with that as I'm improving and I feel its me and not just the clubs! |

What club do you play at? I know all the clubs in that area and most of the top players as well... |

Technique and the right equipment goes hand in hand.
If you equipment which really doesn't fit you, you're going to never get your swing right because you're setting up wrong.
But yes, technique is very important to being a good golfer. _________________ Proud Supporter of Stewart Boswell |
