Yes, hitting the golf ball properly and accurately like the pros is very difficult and athletic...but its only done like 3-4 times per hole with a whole lot of walking in between. If they ran in between shots then maybe it could be on par with squash but until then its not even close to being as physically tough as squash. Even carrying a full set of clubs isn't as tough as squash.
Yes, being able to hit that one accurate shot is difficult and requires loads of practise time. But they're never pressured when they're playing the shot, they won't even swing if there's talk in the crowd! |

Never suggested it was on a par with squash, the question was is golf athletic and as that video shows it is very much an athletic movement, extremely so in fact. _________________ ........ Squash is a drug - and remember there is always someone better than you........ |

Does it require use of the 8 main groups of fitness. Aerobic capacity yes. Flexibility yes. Balance yes. It is athletic. _________________ If the doors of perception were cleansed, everything would appear to man as it is, infinite |

Just the depth of competition alone is scary. I would think it is a lot easier to become world number 1 squash player than world number 1 golfer. (I am sure to get lambasted for that comment...!) |
Probably true, same with tennis. |

I have played both since I was a kid and although I do not think that Golf is athletic it is quite simply the hardest and most technically difficult game there is.
Fundamentally golfers come in all shapes and sizes although the better players at the moment do seem to be taking their fitness more seriously now Tiger is on the scene It is as much about muscle memory and consistant technique as it is about the ability to run around.

More like the abiltiy to walk around. Golfers don't run, they walk. Usually they ride a cart. |

Golf has to be the most boring thing to watch on TV.. Apart for maybe that cross country skiing stuff they show all the time on Eurosport channel!

Have you ever watched curling? That takes boring tv to a new level... blows golf and cross-country skiing right off the charts. And yes, the Canadian tv sports channels show lots of curling, lots and lots and lots. So much its ridiculous. Obviously, the guys that run the channels curl. |

Run the stations you mean. And curling is still obviously a better sport than squash as it's in the olympics and we aren't. _________________ If the doors of perception were cleansed, everything would appear to man as it is, infinite |
