There was a French Player that was suspended for drug use a few years ago... is he still playing? I think he was pretty young at the time.. had lots of potential.

Stephane Galifi is still playing.
He is 30 now, and will be back on the circuit soon.

I hope there will be some great successes for him in the future.

Play squash -> No
Play PSA tournaments -> No
Win PSA tournaments -> we'll see (for me he is not too old)
Re-enter top 50 ranking -> we'll see (for me he is not too old)
Enter top 10 ranking -> yeah too late

Quite right. Goughy and Parkey proved that top 20 is possible from 30-40. Galifi has played relatively little squash so his body should be fresh and injury-resistant, whether he has the game after such a long layoff and with the game moving on, remains to be seen. Whether he had the potential in the first place? Let's not write him off, Viper, everyone deserves a second chance and it is nice to see France continuing to have strength-in-depth to challenge England/Egypt/Australia and the squash establishment.

Stefan Galifi is a very talented and natural squash player. I remember watching him play one year in Altanta and thinking he is a human rubber-band. Very smooth. Even at 30 years old I could see him reaching the top 50 again. I don't think he has the mental strength to reach the top 20, though. He has a very laid back personality and enjoys socializing way too much to be a serious threat.

Of course, I do not know what he has been doing over the past 2 years and whether or not the 2 year ban affected his approach to the game in a positive way. It would be nice to see him back on court though, he was fun to watch.

Nice video -- he has a very relaxed manner on the court.

So he was banned for two years after testing positive for cocaine and cannabis. Seems harsh, given these aren't exactly performance-enhancing drugs.

Top 50? No chance at all for these guys. Our club number one is ranked approx 150 and would beat these guys easily.

Yeah, the decision is harsh, but it was a second offense for Cannabis.

Just viewing a game, you can guess that your club number one could beat them ... You seem to have some talents that I don't.

As I don't have any crystal ball, I will try to speak with facts :
a) Stephane Galifi opponent is Thibault Gouti who just reached the semi-finals of the last Welsh open defeting Michael Reid (CAN PSA 154)
b) On the video, it is the 3rd set (the tightest). Stephane wining the first 2 easily. If I had a crystal ball, I would guess that he might have loosen up the pressure.

Anyway, I must agree, that we can see a lot of mistakes from Stephane in the beginning of the game ...

That guy is no joke... I think he can easily get back in the top 50. He beat the guy that beat Mike Reid... Reid's a good player... that is still nothing compared to how he used to play... I guess we'll see... I'd bet he makes the top 50 easy... if he wants to...

Have you seen in Toulouse Movida Open, Galifi is in Final, coming from qualification, The most stunnig is in victory in semi over Bianchetto 30th at the world PSA ranking ..
This Galifi is incredible, he is able to beat everybody in the top ten if he wants ... and what a so beautiful game he has, never really running !!
I heard that for the last 2 years, he trained a lot in Aix, training regularly with gauthier, arcucci, tenant and others ... He is ready for entering the world top 30 if he wants ..
What about his status with the PSA ? can he played again now after the 2 years stop ?

By the time you read this, Galifi has won the Final with a straight set victory. This shows that if you really want to win badly, you will.

It takes great mental strenght and rock solid determination to train while under suspension. 2 years is a long time and has served his sentence. Time for him to make up loss time. Will follow his progress with anticipation.

Obviously, question 3 and 4 are already answered ... Stephane won his first PSA tournament (Toulouse) of his come-back with no game lost !
And as he win 3/0 over Bianchetti (n°30 PSA), he is certainly Top 50 material !

I'm not sure that the Toulouse tournament has brought any evidence of that. However, I totally share your enthousiasm on his play style : Amazing to watch !

Very Happy Very Happy So the guy is still a kick as$ player... good for him! The guy kept going and still plays a world class level. Anybody that can beat Bianchetti is the real deal - you've got to respect his skills!
