I know, I know, I've given up campaigning on the issue, but once in a while results come in that point out the idiocy of the PSA's 11/10(x-x) system of recording the score, and I feel obliged to share ...
It was National (sorry, Premier) League tonight, and one of the matches finished thus:
Mark Krajcsak lost to Peter Barker 8/10, 12/10, 5/9, 8/10
Now, just so everyone is clear, I put at the bottom of the results "PSL scoring is first to 9, 2 clear", which makes it pretty obvious, I think.
Had this been a PSA match however, the result would have been recorded thus:
Mark Krajcsak lost to Peter Barker 8/9 (0-2), 9/8 (4-2), 5/9, 8/9 (0-2) . Mmmmm.
It was the opening night of the Leinster Open tonight too, and one of the results came in from the organisers as follows:
Peter Creed (Wal) bt Joe Lee (Eng) 11/9, 11/13, 12/10, 17/15
As we all know, PSA scoring is first to 11, 2 clear, so the above makes complete sense ... until it's translated into the official version of:
Peter Creed (Wal) bt Joe Lee (Eng) 11/9, 10/11 (1-3), 11/10 (2-0), 11/10 (7-5)
Two matches, same scoring, the only difference is how it's supposed to be written down at the end, and I'm sorry for being boring, but it's only five words and it's easy ... please do it PSA, please do it .................

| There was no response. I sent a paper to a few key people - didn't want to create a public fuss - and got no reply. |

I made a similar post in the us-squash forum when the PSA started this ridiculous system. The only time putting 11-10 in makes sense is in a team competition when there is a three-way tie in matches and games and you must count back points. For this one-in-a-million scenario an exception could be made.
My other peeve with the PSA: automatic ranking points for wildcards who lose their first match and any points in "closed" events. |
