You don't often seem to hear a bad word for any of the players, they all sound like top people.

My favourites - Mark Chaloner (retired now) and Tania Bailey because they're from Lincolnshire! Peter Nicol is an all time great player in the opinion of many (I don't feel qualified to say really as I've not seen any of the others to compare him to) and a fantastic professional/sportsman.

And I've found Parkie, Scott Handley, Daryl Selby, Bradley Ball, the Botwrights and Steve Meads all great at BSPA Boston, and I'm probably forgetting a few there as well.

I've got loads so it changes by the day really!

I like the players who get really fired up and play it hard. 'Not gentlemanly' would be a better but less gramatically correct phrase. Anthony Ricketts was a prime example. Watch him warm up, it's so serious and I watched one of his matches against Ramy and he even yells out come on a few times, as well as fist pumping and gets so into it he even yells yes or something in Ramy's face (in the heat of the moment, he apoligises later). That passion is what makes sport good for me, you see it in alot of other sports but not squash as much. If your a 13 year old kid do you wanna go play footy or go play the 'gentleman's game'. I only got into squash by accident because I wanted to get fit for cricket. In my opinion their should be more racket throwing and shouting (not so much that the ref's get abused or anything), but enough for the crowd to be excited and get into it more. Who here didn't love Jonathon's temper tantrums or his remarks back to the ref? It adds drama, excitement. Palmer, Power, Ricketts and even Willstrop gets fired up, they are all players like this I like watching.

Shabana is probably the best right now. His game is so different to everyone else's. It's all attack attack attack. Even his length is always dying in the back corners, no wonder Greg who is all about counter attacking and Ramy who is just a brilliant mover are the only two who can get him.

True, but the topic is favorite, not best.

I like John White. For pure entertainment value, I find him more enjoyable to watch than anyone else. That's not to say I don't enjoy watching the others, it's just that John is a step above. Ramy comes a very close second.

Being stuck in Australia, I would think that apart from the top Aussie players, you would have seen very little of any foreign players, Bendi. Unless you look on the short clips from "You Tube". Foriegn players do not travel to Australia.

Hisham is ranked in the top 25, has incredible racquet skill, and a very personable guy off the court. Probably capable of reaching the top 10, since I have seen him push the top guys to 5 games, but he just can't seem to get that 'breakthrough' performance. What do you think, Ramiro - consistancy issue?

You tube only has the popular players doesn't it. I download from PSA live tv anyway. I know most of the top 30 anyway. How come Australia, second best squash nation in the world right now, doesn't have any big tournaments?

David Palmer. I like his style of play, especially his backhand volley drop. I also like James Willstrop. Both big guys, emotional, intensive.

BTW - BamBam, itīs lyrics from Radiohead - Paranoid Android, isnīt it ? Wink

Jonathon Power, how can you go past that guy, immensely talented, flamboyant, creative, amazing deception, passionate, funny. i am sure he is still capable of being no 1 right now, if he really wanted it.

I agree with Hagsey, but I don't think he could come out of retirement to become one now just cos his break was too long and he is too old, but if he never retired he could still be no 1 now, I woulda liked to see his matches with Ashour.

There is no record of Ashour ever playing Power in a PSA tournament according to the PSA rankings 'Head-to-Head' statistics.

Let's lose the rose-tinted glasses view of Power here - his body could not hold together through qualifying any more to build up his ranking, let alone to compete for #1. He had the right idea to retire at the top when he did, not keep breaking down as he had problems with this throughout his career, it wasn't going to get better once he passed 30.

Remember he played/won two "easy" matches at the World Teams 2 weeks ago against below top-30 players and then broke down. What chance against top quality opposition?

Jonathon Power was my favorite player, as much as I like him, I don't think he will be able to come back, his back, ankles and knees seem to be in pretty bad shape.

I agree Power is one of my favorite players that touch and racket control is a joy to watch. Also one of my favorites was Peter Nicol, he may noy have had the flair of other players but there was no denying his talent and like Borg and McEnroe he and Power created brilliant squash matches to watch where you needed the opposites in character and style to keep you glued.
