Why don't more players use the Head squash ball, it must be the best alternative to a Dunlop ball ever. Its round unlike Dunlop balls it stays playable for more matches, its cheaper (big consideration), does not burst as much, seems more consistent with its bounce. I have been using them for about 6 months or so and would not change back. All the players I play do not ever question the ball until I tell them afterwards and then say they did not notice it was a different ball. Has anyone else out there had similar experiences with this ball.

What sparked my post was the survey on the frontpage of Squashsite

Our league stipulates Dunlop Double Yellow must be used.

Most club players therefore use this ball all the time.

Other balls have been tried at the club ie Wilson or Prince, but these tend to zing around like superballs and totally change the game and the players don't seem to like that.

I hadn't heard about the Head ball. I will need to get some to try.

I remember when head where making their balls a yr or two ago and I was asked to trial their first set and compare them to the dunlop balls. They were much faster and asploded a lot quicker (yes I love to use the word asplode instead of explode) than dunlops.. fixed yet?

The Dunlops I buy have always looked round to me. I have noticed that they seem to break much more frequently than they did several years ago. I'm not hitting the ball harder and am playing less frequently but still am buying more often than I used to. Other players too have made comments about their longevity. I've tried the Karakal, Black Knight and the Wislon and was not impressed at all. They were too fast and and didn't last long at all. The Karakal especially wore out quickly.

If the Head ball plays like the Dunlop I'd use that its just that every league and tournament uses the Dunlop so there's not much point to switching.

If their cheaper or last longer why not change. If they still bounce too much or die too quick I'm not getting em.

I have heard that the new head ball is pretty good. I haven't used the double yellow dot yet but I have used the single yellow dot when coaching kids a couple of times and it seems all right.

On another note, my vote for the worst ball from that poll would go to the grays ball - this ball is OK when new from the box but after a certain point in a game you can feel something in this ball "give", for want of a better word, and it becomes sluggish and erratic in bounce.

I've found that the Head balls are still noticeably quicker and bouncier than a Dunlop ball.

What do you guys pay for a squash ball?

In South West London, I buy a pack of three Dunlop double yellows for £1.99 at Sports World.
Better than £3 per ball at my club.
My work also has a squash group who sell us a limited number of balls at £1 each as they are subsidised <<spelling?

I hope the head balls are ok - found out tonight my club is switching to them this comp.
Dunlop balls cost about AU$5 each here in Australia but I can buy them through my work for about AU$40 per dozen.

50c per ball? Don't know where you'd get them that cheap. Even at cost they are more expensive than that. My local club as well as the local sports store chains such as Rebel Sport and Sportsmans Warehouse all sell them for $5 each.

Sounds good! Balls are sold at our club for £3.00 each.

Most people buy their own elsewhere as prices can be less in the big sports stores, or even in Asda!

£1.99 for 3 will take some beating. How old are they though?

I stand corrected, they were £2.99 for three. Basically, buy one ball get two free.
I need to buy some more for our ball feeding machine ("Squash cannon"). I'll pop in and see how many they have left this week (Wed is payday!)
Will gladly post you some if there are plenty going. PM me a postage address or a mobile number that I can text when I'm at the shop, if you like.

Paul
